Once
a man enters into the world of philosophy there is no escape because
he understands that all other pursuits pale in comparison when
measured against the pursuit of truth. This is especially true when
he believes he has discovered the single true philosophy that governs
the world, which remains completely unrecognized by the majority of
the world. Understanding that the majority are blind, he makes it his
sole aim to destroy false philosophies, knowing that those captured
by them are unknowingly imprisoned. His cause is also to call out to
those who remain on the threshold of understanding the importance of
true philosophy, though distracted by the numerous attractions that
pale in comparison when measured against this one pursuit. Of course,
this can only be understood as true if one believes in the
philosophical idea that there is absolute truth. Otherwise,
philosophy can be no more than mere entertainment, having no more
importance than a sporting contest. In such a case, good
philosophy is decided only on
the basis of who is more skilled in rhetoric, just as a good team is
decided upon by their performance on the field.
As
one who believes himself to have discovered the one true philosophy,
I attest that it is a pious pursuit, and not only pious, but the only
beautiful pursuit. It strikes me as so beautiful, in fact, that I
could not stop from pursuing it, even if my pursuit were not for the
sake of piety. I invoke all who also believe in the philosophical
idea of absolute truth to join me in the pursuit of the one true
philosophy, not by simply dabbling in it with one eye that is
distracted by the innumerable amount of attractions to be distracted
by, nor as those who do not believe in a single true philosophy, as
though it were a game to see who is more skilled in rhetoric, but by
fully entering into this inescapable world where beauty unspeakable
may be found. If for no other reason, I ask that you would enter with
me for the simple reason that it is right. Either way, my promise to
you is sure – you will not regret where you find yourself as long
as you pursue it as one ought: with absolute devotion.
